Coffee break time

Just realized it's coffee break time at Trudeau & here I am having tea in London - I sure do miss those coffee breaks! I remember one of my first days at work, Lisa & I were working away like crazy, when Peter popped into the lab, yelled over the bench, "coffee break time" and then walked out. I of course had no clue what I was suppose to do since I had 10 samples that needed to be processed. Luckily Paula came over and explained every day at 10.30am and 3.30pm we have "mandatory" coffee breaks. So I found a stopping point & followed her down the hall to the break room.

Your first day at coffee break is a bit strange if you don't know all the characters involved. I only knew about half of them & when I say "know them" I mean I knew their name and that was about it. Each person at the table has their own little quirk which you have to learn.

The main players at the time (if I remember correctly) were: Larry, Pete, Karen, Paula, Kim, Louise, Shannon, and Lisa (if she was still at work).

The other tricky part about joining the coffee break table is where to sit!! Some have "assigned seats" such as Larry who sits facing the door, Pete sits facing him, the rest of us sorta migrate around but typically Paula sat with her back to the wall & I sat opposite her - nobody else really seemed to care where they sat. But don't you ever sit in Larry or Pete's chair or you will have hell to pay!! Trust me, I tried it once & my chair (with me in it) got moved so Pete could put a chair in "his spot" which was followed by Paula saying, "YA BIG BABY!"

Coffee break was always good for some local gossip, talk of religion, politics, and of course who can forget the high school sports, especially the SL cross country team ;)

Miss all of you at the coffee break table! I'll make a visit in October, I promise . . . maybe we can even go for sushi after :)

And so . . .

. . . the countdown begins!

3 weeks from today is my last final exam! (my dad's 58th birthday)

2 months from today my bestmate at uni leaves to go home to start her
MD/PhD program at Washington University in St. Louis

4 months from today is my flight back to the states

7 months and a few days from today will be the year 2007!!!!!!

Sir Edmund Hillary

So how many of you know who Sir Edmund Hillary is?

I know I sure had not heard about him, until his name was mentioned on the radio today as being the first person to summit Everest on this day back in 1953 with Tenzing Norgay

Just figured I'd add this on to my blog in the category of interesting things we should know if we ever make it to Jeopardy.

A few random photos from today

So I've been home today doing my wash, studying, organizing my notes, checking email, chatting online with friends & taking a few random photos which I will now share with you:

a year of immunology notes . . . What fun!
my green thumb - spider plant is MissyLou's but the others were from basil I bought outside the tube stop, put in water to keep fresh & then it started to root itself, so now I have two small basil plants - must have a green thumb :)
my pals - Cartwheels (monkey in the back), George (monkey on left), Brody (Welsh dragon), and Super Trooper (grey bear)
snacks before cooking snack after cooking - chicken kiev balls with yorkshire puddings
gift from Patty & Matt (Sara means Princess)
Calendar showing not a whole heck of a lot of time to study for these finals!!

Bank Holiday

Today is a Bank Holiday here in the UK so we all have it off, course that means that nothing is open, which is rather annoying when you planned on getting some errands done! It's funny the way they have bank holidays instead of named holidays like we do in the states.

I had a wee lie in this morning, woke up around 11, but stayed in bed dozing on & off till around noon - it was fantastic! Just put my wash in (hence there is sun outside my window now) and having some lemon zinger tea.

I received photos from two of my best friends in the states today, taken over the weekend of their children playing together - they are super cute!!! I replied back with "you two should get married & have a child, (I'll be the godmother & spoil him/her to death), as well as the others . . . Can't wait to hear the reply on that one!!!

Oh bugger I can't remember the point of this post, hmmm . . . oh maybe it was to tell you about a word I think everyone should know & try to fit it into a conversation this week, urticaria (medical term for hives), but way cooler sounding.

Well I'm off to get some caffeinated tea, gotta get my brain sorted for this exam that's only three weeks from today - the excitement of studying just never ends around here, lol!

My other possible profession

Should my career in research ever
fail me, I have a "back up" plan,
which not to toot my own horn
BUT I'm darn good at, as well!
See for yourselves here are the
before & after photos . . . Thanks to Susan I was
able to take my first ever
stab at cutting hair,
THANKS SUS!!!

Photos I promised earlier . . .

Borough Market - view similar to Bidget Jones' Diary
Matt & me at The Anchor (can you tell I was sick of smiling for the camera)
Matt, Patty, & Susan at The Cambridge Arms - start of Heather's 30th birthday pub crawl
Dave, Heather & Eric
Susan, me, Amanda & the London AtoZ with all the pubs highlighted for the day
Dom & Heather with her 30th birthday wand
Susan & me at Harrod's Chocolate Bar - YUMMMMMM
me & my lil sis at the Lamb for dinner Saturday night

Last of the Patty & Matt photos

So Friday night, P,M, & I went to see The Producers to celebrate our mum's birthday (thanks to my mate Susan's parent's idea to celebrate even if the celebrity is not available - LOL) We had fantastic seats!! FIRST ROW CENTER & Patty even got to help an actor in the second half. After that we were all pretty knackered so we stopped into my local so Matt could get a pint of Guinness & ask for the pint glass (his mission was to get as many as possible) - I asked Jocelyn & she said no worries, she'd even give us a clean one!!!

Saturday we had a wee lie in, then all showered & headed towards Borough Market. We had "lunch" there, ya know how the market goes . . . more like grazing from stand to stand. We started with souvlaki, then a beef burger with grilled onions & tomato sauce (aka ketchup), baklava, and some fresh hard cider. Matt was a big fan of this 8% stuff, Patty & I weren't so impressed.

From there we headed up to The Cambridge Arms followed by The Spice of Life. From there Susan, Matt, Patty & I left to hit up Harrods - we had a mission, to visit the chocolate bar!! Susan had never been & she loves chocolate, so we took her for a surprise visit. It was of course fantastic!

We had dinner at The Lamb near Russell Square, so they could have their last Fish & Chips in England :) As always the food was fantastic AND Matt loved their Young's pint glass, so that got nicked as well - lol! P&M left from there to go to the Oxford (in Kentish Town) to try to pinch a few more pint glasses (N.B. they got 2 more) Susan & went to Haagen Dazs in Leicester Square, which FYI is open till 2am on the weekends - it's two floors with couches & if you sit near a window you can see the whole world go by if you sit long enough! We had to wait in the queue for about 10 minutes, but it was well worth it!!

It won't let me post the photos so I'll try it in another blog

Classes ALL DONE

So I turned in my term paper (practical write up) and now I'm officially done with all my classes for my MSc! Just have 2 final exams on 19 & 20 June, and a summer project with thesis to write up. Where did all the time go?

Well I'm gonna veg out now - pop in a DVD, take wee snooze & wait for Patty & Matt to get back around 5pm, we're going to see The Producers tonight (they got cheap tickets at Leicester Sq this morning, cause they (P&M) rock, ya know!)

found out that there were 70

Jim's mom update & photos

So Jim's mom is doing okay, not great, but better. That's all he really said so I left it at that, but I know many of you had been asking so I wanted to pass that note along.

So here are some of the photos from last night (again to view all of them see my yahoo photo page).

Matt & Jim after the meal (look like a pair of book ends)

Matt & Patty at The Sport Cafe

"Let me show you this way to pick up protestors,
you just put your hand like this and
push your thumb here"-Jim

"who can be bothered with police moves, let's just drink"-Rob

"GO SABRES!!!!" -Jim
("oh please, everyone knows the Rangers are the real BEST!!" - me)

We had tea with the Queen

Well not really with the Queen, but Rob told me it was about as close to tea with the Queen as I was ever gonna get (will explain later) so I figured I'd get your attention with it!

In reality, Patty, Matt, Jim, Rob & I eat at a Mongolian BBQ place last night near Covent Garden. The food was really good and quick service - just we didn't get there probably till around 8.45/9pm, we were suppose to all meet up at 7.30pm, but the boys were running late & it was pouring rain so we tubed it as far as we could to avoid getting soaked.

When the bill came, the boys took care of it for us. It was about £13/per person for the all you could eat BBQ, plus drinks, so I'm guessing close to £100!! This is where the Queen comes in - Rob said that since the Queen pays him & he paid for our meal, it's just like going for tea with the queen - it's a long stretch, but I decided to go alone.) All I can say is they are truly wonderful mates!! From there we went over to The Sports Cafe (between Trafalgar Sq & Picadilly Circus) till 2am and then got the N20 (night bus) back to Kentish Town.

P,M, and I got up around 11am and went to Leicester Sq to get some lunch at Bella Italia, which quite possibly had the SLOWEST service I've ever experienced, luckily the food was good!

From there I left P&M to site see while I went to uni to finish off my paper (practical write up) that's due tomorrow at 4pm. I finally found a computer lab that had an empty seat in it, sat down & found out that my jump drive had some sort of virus (probably from one of the ohter uni computers) and my paper was gone! The last saved copy I have on my lap top at home was about 800 words ago!! So needless to say I was a little pissed off when in walks a lecturer who announces there will be a class in that room in about 5 minutes, this sends me over the top, so I decide to grab a tube home & write from here. This is my attempt to relax & refocus blog time - so far so good, but I must admit I think I'm borderline postal, probably better I'm not out in public (lol)

P.S. The work permit issues might not be so terrible I found out after a quick chat with Hazel on Tuesday morning, so now I have to go back & speak with Ulrich, see about his grants & what his projects with TB will be, see if I'm interested - keep ya posted.

funny expression

Here is a funny expression I
think you should learn
& try to get into
regular conversation!!

"Oi, ya cheeky monkey!"

It's what one of my mates at
uni said to me today!!!

Few more photos

I rather enjoy posting photos, hope everyone enjoys viewing them, sometimes I just get tired to typing out new & exciting things that I do (well not really b/c my daily life isn't all that exciting, so when I do have something exciting I do like to brag a little about it).

Since my day thus far as been full of exam taking, lunch at a pub on Tottenham Court Road (with my uni mates) and now back at home writing up my practical for Friday, I decided I'd share a few more photos, instead of boring you with the details of our essay questions, like describe the 3 types of genetic variation for African trypanosomes, yeah I figured you'd prefer the photos . . . (for ALL the photos see my yahoo photos link on the left hand side)

Matt, me and Sus in front of my localCan you say heavy rain & long queues?!?!?! Can you now say, Patty with naked lady?

Repeat after me, "only in England . . . "

Matt at Windsor Castle

She smiles entirely way too much for that job!

"Aaarrrr" like a proper pirate!

Tonight is dinner with Jim & Rob somewhere in the west end - I'm sure that will turn into a night out as well. Will keep you up to date tomorrow since I'm sure I'll need a few study breaks from my write up!

Well . . . Happy Wednesday!

Patty & Matt at Regents Park (this afternoon)

Regents Park again (thanks to the timer feature :)

So much fun!!

So as I told you yesterday, Patty, Matt & I were going to see Blue Man Group at 8pm, near Covent Garden. Prior to the show we met Susan at the noodle bar, Patty & Matt aka P&M (Dad that doesn't mean properties & maintenance - lol) were very impressed with the prices, all four of of had dinner & a starter for £18.80!!

So Blue Man Group is a blast! I highly recommend it! I'm not sure exactly what I expected, but it far surpassed that & was a hoot. Matt & Patty enjoyed it as well :)

Earlier in the day I had gotten a text message from Jim (around 10am) announcing that some bloke had pulled a gun on him while at work that night . . . oh the joys of police work . . .so needless to say we'd been playing phone tag all day to talk about it. As I turned my phone on after the show was done Jim was calling to find out where we where because he was at the pub. So the three of us got the tube back home so P&M could meet Jim, Rob & Mark. It was good fun, don't worry Patty's got photos to share! They should be some rather good ones as "my boys" taught Matt about a shot called, "The Gas Chamber" for those of you who don't know about this shot I'll explain:

1) put a shot glass on a small plate
2) fill shot glass three-quarters full with Vodka
3) fill rest with Sambuca (let a little overflow onto the plate)
4) light the shot glass on fire
5) sprinkle cinnamonn on it (cool fire display!)
6) cover with a pint glass to put out the flames (producing alcohol fumes in the pint glass)
7) lift pint glass up, cover bottom with your hand & insert bendy straw
8) patron now sucks the alcohol fumes from the glass
9) patron then takes shot
10) pour overflowed alcohol into shot glass & have patron finish it off

Let me just tell you 2 of these will kick anyone's arse!! Jim went first, Rob second and then with a bar full of observers, "Welcome to England Matt" went third. Luckily for Matt, Jade (one of the barmaids) gave him a few pointers on how to take the shot more easily (pretend to suck, but cover the straw with your tongue) and provided him with 2 pints of water to chug just after the shot was done. I love Jade, she's the greatest!!

Well I need to get back to studying now, but I'll post the photos as soon as P&M get home - I think they went to Windsor Castle today. This morning it was actually sunny & almost warm, but don't get too excited because this afternoon it's clouded right up & we've gotten some rain again.

Word of the Day

"Podged" - full after a meal (from podgy meaning chubby & pudgy)
example: "Well now I'm podged"

On a side note, the last word of the day was "chuffed" and MissyLou told me it meant happy, but when I looked it up translated to "stoked", so it's more than just happy.

Okay, off to study for real now!!!

Swim for Malaria (updated)

Thank you again to all of you who
helped sponsor my flatmate, Louise,
in the Swim for Malaria!
Click here to hear about where
your money is going
See you can make a difference!!!

Yet another day of rain

Guess I should be happy it's not snowing, like it is in Saranac Lake, New York, but I do feel sorry for Patty & Matt who are having to "tube it" (Patty enjoys saying that) everywhere instead of walking. Course they are very proud of their knowledge of the tube now so that's good.

Today is not a very exciting day for me, woke up, eat some
Shreddies, had a cup of tea, put the washing on, and now studying for my Immunology of Parasitic Infections on Wednesday morning. Now doesn't that sound like, edge of your seat excitement?? Well it's NOT, let me tell you!

I've decided I'm not a big malaria fan - not sure what it is, I just wanna tune out whenever anyone talks about it, not a good thing when you have lots of lectures on it of course! I have no problem with other parasites, just malaria does nothing for me (that sounds funny doesn't it!)

Something exciting I am doing today is going to see
Blue Man Group with Patty & Matt tonight. We're going to meet at Russell Square tube station at 5.30pm and have dinner at the noodle bar just round the corner with Susan (and maybe others, have not heard back from anyone else yet) then down to Covent Garden (or as Patty likes to say, "Covenant Gardens") for the show!

Well I should get back to studying, just wanted to have something interesting for everyone to read when they got to work on Monday morning (for those on EST, that is)

Sunday, May 21

Who are you???

Mr/Mrs/Miss Anonymous who are you? You've commented in foreign languages that I don't understand - I'm guessing it was German, Russian and Spanish, but I'm not fluent enough to get it, can you post the translations for me please??

Still . . .

pissing down with rain, making it hard to be motivated to do work :( only 72 hours till my term essay exam & 120 hours till my practical write up is due!

Hope Patty & Matt aren't soaked, but the rain is so hard I can hear it almost like I'm back in a tent at sleep away camp - very windy as well. Hopefully it will get sunny at some point during their holiday here (fingers crossed!)

Well it's 11.26am BST (British Summer Time) and Patty & Matt just left a little while ago to head to the London Dungeon, Churchill's Cabinet War Rooms & the National Galleries (not sure how long they will last there as Patty's not a huge fan of museums)

We had dinner last night with Amanda & Susan - got curries from across the road & made rice at home :) Tonight MissyLou & Jeremy are coming up for dinner. Nothing else big planned for this week, gonna play it by ear ya know. Jim & Rob are working nights till Tuesday, so we're gonna try to get together one night after that, but again nothing planned as of yet.

Well I'm going to finish my Cheerios and try to get some reading done. It's another rainy day in London, not sure Patty & Matt will get any sunny weather :( forecast doesn't look promising
.

Or no Berlin

So long long story, but bottom line is I didn't make the flight this morning to Berlin :( The short of the long is train was running really late & then broke, had to get the next one which was delayed as well, so I arrived too late.

Was really pissed at first but figured it was some sort of sign since my sis & Matt are arriving today. Would have been great to go but things don't always go the way you want them to.

Well I'm gonna get ready for Patty & Matt's arrival.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!!

Friday, May 19

Berlin here I come

Guten Tag (good day), tomorrow at about 4am I get a train to Luton airport where I get on a plane at 6am and fly to Berlin. Then I hopefully can figure out the German transport system & get myself to the hostel where Katie & Jo will be awaiting my arrival. I'll drop off my bag & off we go to explore Berlin :) I'm packed & ready to go with even a few German phrases:

Ich mochte wasser (I would like water)

Die rechnung bitte (The bill please)

Sprechen sie Englisch (Do you speak English?)

Ich spreche kein deutsch (I don't speak German)

Danke schon (Thank you)

Ok, signing off b/c I need to get a few hours kip before my weekend adventure starts!!
Guten Abend (good night) and auf wiedersehen (goodbye)

Shann, maybe I'll meet the father of your godchild while I'm there, don't worry, I'll take a photo if I do - LMAO ;-)

Airbus A380

So the Airbus A380 arrived at London's Heathrow airport yesterday. This is super exciting to me since my sister is one of the test engineers on the engines that could be used to fly this plane (Engine Alliance GP7200 turbo fans). This plane had the rolls royce engines on it, but the size of the engine is the same (MASSIVE, I saw while it was still in CT)

Click here to see the article about it's arrival. You can actually see a video of it's landing on that site as well. In it you will see other planes & trucks on the ground to give you an idea of it's size!

The A380 is 240 feet in length and 80 feet high (that's about equal to 6 double decker buses) . It made its maiden flight in April 2005 in Toulouse, France (home of Airbus Industrie). As of May 12, four A380s had carried out 367 test flights, the equivalent of 1,238 flight hours.

word of the day

Chuffed meaning happy for example:

"I'm so chuffed that the photo came out well" - Louise earlier today.

News from Portland & London

Sunny, warm and VERY windy here in London today - almost looks at times like it's snowing so much "crap" is flying around outside - the clouds are moving so fast, it's amazing to watch them!

Let's see what else is new? I have an interview tomorrow with two labs at LSHTM, Greg and Ulrich - will keep you posted on that front :)
The biggest problem would be getting a work permit, since the school does not typically help techs, just post docs.

So here are two photos from Portland - isn't my mum just the cutest??

UEFA Champions Finals

So tonight is an important night for footballers! It's the UEFA Champions Finals. (UEFA stands for Union of European Football Associations) Normally this would not be such a big deal to me, but my favourite football team is playing!!! So tonight in Paris, Barcelona will face Arsenal. To quote Jade, "Bring it on Barcelona, you ain't got nuttin!" followed much more calmly by, "did that sound American?"

In other news, I got my grades from last term back (finally) this strike is really slowing things down, I'm not a fan of it one bit!!

Well I think that's about it for today.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot, I was able to give blood without passing out & I even looked at my blood at one point!! Turned out we only needed to give 30mL. I got an English chocolate candy bar - forget the name of it now, haven't eaten it yet, I'm saving it, not for a rainy day of course because then nothing would ever get saved - lol - and I'd be eating it now.

Keep your fingers crossed for sunny warm weather in Berlin this weekend, suppose to be 11C and overcast with rain in London :( what happened to our summer weather?!?!?!?

Sadly :( I report Barcelona beat Arsenal 2-1 tonight.

Tuesday, May 16

Cultural Event

So some of my mates from London, like to do something "cultural" yet inexpensive once a month. May's event is the play Two Thousand Years. Tonight was the night :)
June's event is
Avenue Q

So for £11 we got to see the play. It was a group of about 15 of us - we met up at 6pm, grabbed dinner at the cafe in the theatre, sat outside & chatted then in to our seats. Albeit, our seats were the "nose bleed" section, but you can't expect much for £11 can you? The play was very funny! I don't want to say much about it and give it away, but if you want to know more click on the title up above - it's got a good overview.

In other exciting life news for me . . . I had my last ever lecture for my masters today!!!! I just have lab from 2pm tomorrow - 5pm Friday and then I'm all done with classes for my masters - WOW, it's a bit crazy, where did the time go?!?!? It just flies by when you're having fun, which is all I ever seem to have here.

Ok, it's late, gotta head to bed, need to go to the post tomorrow, buy some food for my sis (for this weekend, when I'm not around), swimming, & give blood for my uni mate's summer project (we get mentioned in her thesis paper & free chocolate!!) She only needs 50mL/person from people who have not been in leishmania infected areas for the past two years & BCG negative - luckily I qualify for that, and I'm getting better at giving blood, so I might actually not pass out this time (fingers crossed)

For all Mother's out there

Saturday, May 13

Tonight's thoughts

So Susan & I went to dinner at Gulshan sorta across the road from where I live, it's where we typically go (unless the boys want to meet up in Angel after work). We had our usual chicken kormas with naan bread. After we decided to pop into the pub to see if they were offering dessert (sometimes they have waffles with ice cream & caramel sauce). When we walked in we went straight to the bar to ask Sally (one of the bartenders) if they had any dessert, from a few feet away I hear, "Oi, you can't say hello?" I turned to see Rob & Jim both glaring at me. I hadn't recognized them, I guess because I hadn't expected to see them their.

Sus & I were disappointed that they didn't have waffles, but we went over to have a chat. After a bit I finally remembered Jim had said he was going home this weekend so I asked why he was here. He announced that his mom had, had a second heart attack, was not doing well, and was not expected to make it through the weekend. He admitted he couldn't be at home and watch her die, he'd done it with his father & it was too painful! I had no clue what to say, luckily I have both of my parents, I have no clue what it is like to be in his shoes - I don't want to imagine it.

Then as luck would have it a fight broke out & the boys had to go and deal with that. Mark came in somewhere in the middle of all this. Sus & I stood chatting until they returned. Susan & I figured out what time we were going to meet up tomorrow for studying & swimming, and then she went to catch the bus to go home. I stayed talking with Mark about Americans, Liverpool (where he's from), Iraq, South Korea (he was stationed there with the British Army), and other topics which I've now forgotten. Around midnight Mark left and Rob was chatting to some girl, who he had no chance with, but we left him to try any way.

Jim & I started to talk about his mom. Now 95% of you have never met Jim, but for those of you who have (or who have heard me talk enough about him) you know he's not good talking about emotions (not that most guys are, but Jim's REALLY bad!) We had about a 30 minute conversation where he couldn't even look at me and just starred out the door talking about how his mom is his best friend & how he can't stand this and I'm the only one who knows anything. Of course there is nothing I can do to help, but I stood there & took it all in.

Finally Rob interrupted us & saying, "mate we gotta get goin, it's late" so there were hugs & kisses all around & I sent them on their way while I walked home.

My reflection tonight I guess is just to appreciate the time you have. It was sorta funny, before Jim mentioned his mom, he kept saying how he was sorry he'd not had more time to spend with me & mom while she was here and how great she seemed (even in her jet-lagged state). I kept saying no worries, but he kept repeating about how important it is to spend time with parents, I realize now what he was on about.

Here are some poems I found about moms, which I'll dedicate tonight to my mom & Jim's mom:

How much I love you I can't say:
It's more than words can hold.

You're all at once my rich, red clay,
My potter and my mold.

Yours the words that shaped my voice,
The spirit within mine.

Yours the will that shaped my choice,
My fortune, and my sign.

How lucky I was to have had you
At the core of me!

Wise and good, you always knew
Just what I could be.

And so I came to be someone
Whom I could be proud of.
For this I give my swollen sum
Of gratitude and love.

You are my mother and my friend,

Which is unusual.

Somehow our characters must blend:
Your wisdom and my will.

I turn, and you are there for me;
I speak, you understand.

I feel cared for, but also free;
You lead but don't command.

I'm fortunate that I was born
To someone just like you;

I love you, not just as my mom,
But for what you are and do.

Mother's Day

So as most of you know Mother's Day is this coming Sunday. So last Friday I wrapped mom's present, wrote out her card & off to the post I went. In the card I wrote about how Mother's day in the UK was back in March & how I'd had to buy the card then, keep it safe & then remember to mail it in time. I was very proud of myself for getting the timing down just right!!

The other day she called to say thank you for the shirt. To my surprise she didn't mention the card, so I asked about it:
"What? Where was it?" (Mom)
"Yah know the big purple card taped to the outside of the parcel, used for your address. I forgot to put the card inside, so I taped it to the outside, figured you'd notice since it was purple and all" (me)
"Oh . . . . . . Let me check the garbage . . . (rumbling noises as she goes through the bin) . . . Yuck, that's not it . . .(more rumbling noises) . . . . Well today was uhh, garbage day . . . Maybe I threw it out . . . let me go check and I'll let you know" (Mom)

So today she called to tell me a funny story about a rat in her yard, which Quid had discovered. Tentatively I asked, "So did you ever find the card?" long pause followed by some giggling and then a "noooo?" and more giggling!

Remember, my mom's a natural blonde as well :)

More Q&H photos

So I might be a little obsessed with my mom's puppy, but I just think he's the cutest thing in the world!! Here are a few more photos from this past week, his first week in Portland.

Life update

I just got out of the shower - been a slow day for me . . . woke up at 10am, got down from the loft, had some Cheerios & tea, checked email, talked to Mike T on Skype, watched Napoleon Dynamite, checked email again, showered, now sitting in my dressing gown (robe) checking email again.

Looks like we're gonna get some sort of heavy rain storm, it was sunnier earlier, but getting darker & that funny quiet before the storm kinda look, except that we don't seem to get thunderstorms here at all, I've only had one in the 8 months I've been here and it was while we were in the middle of a hail storm in Wales (go figure).

Did I tell you about my day yesterday? No, I don't think I did, so I had classes from 10-12, then sat outside with my mates from uni having lunch in the park across the road, then back to uni to meet up with Amanda, we went over to
Russell Square.
We were going to read, but ended up just chatting for 2 hours while watching pigeons try to "get it on" along with some interesting people watching as well. The coolest part was when the mounted police came through the park. There's a fountain in the middle of RS that just pops up from the side walk.

One of the horses was scared so he just sorta stood back, while the other went to drink of the edge, slowly he stepped further into it to "sip" from the center spout, which is quite a bit higher & I'm guessing stronger pressure. When he got to this one, it obviously squirted right up his nose & so he'd turn his head to the side & make a funny face to get rid of it, then right back into the spray for some more. It went on for about 3 minutes, it was so cute!

At 3pm, we headed back to uni. I went to the library until MissyLou (flatmate) showed up at around 5.30pm, we then walked back to Jeremy's flat (Lou's bf) and decided since it was such a nice day to go to
Regent's Park (which I had not been to yet).

We walked over there, found a nice spot where we could sit in the sun & Jeremy attempted to teach us how to juggle - don't worry as soon as I get the photos I'll send them - they are hysterical, MissyLou & I look like total freaks - contorted faces with balls flying all over the place primarily landing on the ground - LMAO!! Around 8.40pm we left the park went back to J's and had chili with rice for dinner. I got back to my flat around 11.15pm and just went to bed.

I like this statue b/c it reminds me of summer camp & of my "brothers"!!

Well I best go figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my afternoon/evening - might grab a curry with Susan & Rob (if I can find the boy) Jim's home this weekend (helping his mom since she had that heart attack a few weeks ago.)
