VIRGIN Media sucks!
Sorry I've not been posting more often, but as you read in my last post my internet at home is rather buggered. Yesterday was the day on which the Virgin man was suppose to come & "fix" it . . . to make a rather long story slightly shorter here is the run down:
- I waited around from 16.00 until 18.53 when the door bell rang (my time slot was 16.00-19.00)
- Virgin man looked at the cable box & announced, "it's broken" . . . now wasn't that the reason I called in the first place?
- Virgin man looked at wire outside of flat & announced, "you need new wiring, I'll call you later to tell you when they can come & install it"
- Virgin man leaves at 19.03 (yes, correct all this took less than 10 minutes!)
- I waited 20 minutes & received a call saying, "the next time they're in your area is 9 May between 08.00 and 12.00, does that work for you?" Caught totally off guard I said, "yes, thanks"
Now I understand we're rather far into the month of April, but waiting till 9 May just sounds RIDICULOUS!!! The Virgin man also said if I'd like to make a complaint I can call for free from my Virgin phone line . . . HELLO, what part of the "it's not working" do you not understand?!?!?!?
The biggest problem in my mind is that I'm semi stuck with using Virgin, cause Sky doesn't work in my area & BT will make me sign a year contract and I'm only going to be here for another 8 months (the early cancellation fee is something crazy like £100, which I'm not willing to pay!) So needless to say at this point I was very very pissed off yesterday evening.
I'm hoping today will be better, but so far the start has been rather slow & rocky - bus took 15 minutes to arrive (they're suppose to come every 5-8 minutes) and then it terminated 2 stops later, so got on next bus which stopped 4 stops later, got on the third bus which terminated 3 stops away from my work so I got off & decided to walk the rest of the way, not worth the hassle of a fourth bus. I'm hoping a nice cup of tea will turn things around, but not holding my breath.
So I again apologies for the lack of Easter photos or more regular posting, but that's just life for me at the moment. Next time I'll be able to post photos from home, I will have LOTS of photos to share from my trip to Germany at Easter, our day trip to Luxembourg, and my weekend visit to Sofia, Bulgaria in a weeks time!

annoying peeps, annoy me!
I think I have mentioned this before, but of course now can't seem to find the previous post. Doesn't it annoy you when, people you know happen to be in a (bad) mood nothing to do with you, but decide to take it out on you? Well that's just how I feel today! Someone I know was told information (which to be honest (s)he already knew from a year ago) that upset him/her and now all day today (s)he's been in a rotten mood & acting as if I did something wrong to him/her. Albeit I did have to be the bearer of the news, but don't hurt the messenger, I'm only doing my job and HELLO, you knew this info over a year ago, so why are you so surprised now about it?!?!?!?! UGH, people frustrate me so much sometimes. I'm 90% sure people around me can't tell when I'm in a bad mood cause I can keep what ever the issue is separate from them (unless of course they had something to do with the reason I'm in the mood, then you will more than likely know about it.
Okay, just had to get that out there. In happier news, I got to see photos of my cousin Carolyn's daughter, Eloise Joan, who was born March 11, 2008 at 11.39pm, very exciting!! Okay it's almost 5pm and I've been here since 8am so I'm going to finish off my
Chamomile-Honey-Vanilla tea & head home :)

Some days are just crap!
Like today for instance, the engineer who was suppose to come & work today through Thursday so he can fix stuff at work called around 10am to say he is delayed. He hopes to arrive sometime this afternoon/evening. This means that now he has to work tomorrow to Friday, meaning we can't start our experiment
on Friday like we had planned and wanted to do. Especially as my coworker is gone all next week in skiing and the week after that is the week before we leave for the Keystone meeting in Vancouver, Canada so we'll be busy getting posters and presentations ready for that, etc . . . UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have I told you lately how much I dislike science?!?!?!?!?!!?
UPDATE 14.41: you learn that you've "won" the caption this contest over on Carmi's page, check it out, here I am feeling much, much better now! It's the little things in life I tell ya - sorta like video skype (right AM & DB?)Labels: caption this, carmi, frustrations, work
long overdue update
hi everyone, sorry for my 4 days of quiet, even after I promised I'd be good & post stuff for JCG who's on bed rest :( I've just been so busy with dad & work I've not had proper time to sit down & compose a post.
So I don't have photos right now, buuuuuttttt I did take some over the weekend. On Saturday we went to Oxford, toured around Christ Church, even got into the dinning hall where Harry Potter was filmed (don't worry photos will come eventually), then on to Magdalen College, which has some of the most beautiful grounds - it's where I'd have wanted to go if I had grown up in the UK.
Sunday we woke up & went to IKEA to get me a new bed (yeah!) we decided not to waste the money on a bed frame as mine was perfectly fine, so we picked out the mattress, paid for it, sent it to the delivery section, arranged for dad to stay home on Monday & back home we went.
Monday the mattress got delivered, low & behold it's a different size than my bed frame! yes, that means my sheets don't fit it either!!! We decide we'll go back another time & sort it out. We also decide we'll go to Brighton on Saturday.
Today dad picked me up from work around half 4, got a tour of the labs & saw what he can see of the cat 3 labs (through a small viewing window only), met my co-workers and then we met Kaylie at Euston Square station & went to IKEA. Luckily it wasn't nearly as busy as it was on Sunday so we were pretty speedy. Found bed frame, found sheets, found a few other bits & bobs we needed and off to the "pick up aisles" we go . . . got the side frames, got kaylie's mirror, but we can't find the head board, it seems to be out of stock, rather pissed off, hungry & exhausted from this whole process (btw it's not so easy to get out to Neasden from where I live or work) I speak to someone at the info desk & nope they don't have any, they hope to have 5 delivered tomorrow but if I come after work he can almost guarantee me they'll be gone - WTF - is there any way to reserve it? NO! can I order it online? NO!
We drop the mirror & side pieces & check out with only stuff we can carry in our hands. Then try to get home a new way, which turns out rather long & we of course didn't really end up where we wanted to, but whatever we got home at 9pm.
After a quick prep of dinner, dad & I started to discuss how maybe we could just use 2 pieces of plywood to "make" the bed frame fit my lovely new mattress . . . I think it's going to work :)
Aren't dad's the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow night we're going to see The Dutchess at 6.10pm - YEAH!!!
okay off to sleep now - will try to get some photos up soon.

Are they for real?
I just was speaking with the same person I spoke about two posts back about their paper, which I've been trying to help them with since everyone else is gone, but since they doesn't seem to follow directions very well it's rather difficult, for example, I've asked to see all the sections they has done thus far. Finally yesterday I got bits & bobs on random pieces of paper (not in any sort of order), which I read over last night. When meeting with them today and discussing it - I was met with constant arguement for why they'd done it the way they did or why they hadn't done something I'd asked for. Today I said, "alright if you don't want to put an abstract, table of contents or acknowledgements that's up to you" they replied back with, "so I don't have to put those in? cause if it's up to me I wouldn't do any of this" I said, "well it is
ultimately up to you how you present it for the examiners, but if I were you I'd check what the book which the course organiser gave you says"
how can you be a week away from turning a paper in & still not know what's required?

busy semi crappy week
yeah so i need to vent about my week . . . as if having my period with horrible cramps wasn't enough this week i also found out that my mum's b'day present didn't arrive b/c my credit card was denied (probably frozen but as I can't call 800 numbers from the UK I can't find out) then I finally get the non-800 number & my phone card dies - so mum had to pay for it herself . . . felt like a schmuck. then tried to get my transcripts sent to PeaceCorps - asked mom to mail a check & fill out the form with my dates of attendance etc then she called today to tell me they can't do it without
me signing it or me faxing it in, so now tomorrow i have to pay £2.50 to fax it over, but can't use my credit card since it's FLIPPIN frozen or whatever it's deal is my mum has to remail the check - the PC wanted all this info within 4 weeks (that's Friday) so obviously that's not happening & I know they're flexible, I just wanted to have it all done on time b/c without it they can't set up my appt for an interview & I WANT to do that whilst I'm home since i doubt I'll be home again this year. then in case all that wasn't enough stress, i also for no good reason (aside from maybe cramps) couldn't sleep one night & the more I tried to sleep & thought about how I had to give 120 in infections the following day in the cat 3 the less I could sleep, so I was still up at 4.45am, that's right I got 2 hours if that of sleep & then if you don't think I've had a tough day I leave work semi early to come home & get my shower fixed but NOOOOOOOOOOO the lady calls to say the van broke down & they'll be coming tomorrow - UGH!!!!!!!!! oh yeah did I mention my home phone doesn't work & my cable still hasn't been fixed & my internet is running at molasses speed? oh yeah other thing (not as important but whatever) i had the chance to go to Prague this weekend for £100 return including hotel - GREAT deal but I had to find someone to go with me to get that price & all my friends here suck and didn't want to go, so I got my hopes up & now can't go. oh I remember one more bad thing - i told you about our liquid nitrogen disaster right? well we're having "the meeting" with my boss about it on monday for sure, not looking forward to that - i did however manage to grow up 3 lines of cells (RAW, J774 and KY-1, I know they're all easy to grow but I wasn't expecting them to survive the indefinite period at room temp in DMSO) and then I think it didn't help that everyone around me at work the other day was talking about how great their husband or boyfriends are & I was feeling rather left out of the conversation & this new girl said so Sara you don't have a boyfriend, why not? as if I've chosen to be single for the rest of my life like a loser
UPDATE:- the plumber finally showed up today (at 7.30pm - appt was for half 5! and was able to do a temp fix, which means he has to come back - WTF!?!?!?
- mailed off my peacecorps paperwork from this end today & i suspect they should have received mum's check by now, so that's moving along at a snails pace instead of molasses :)
Okay feeling much much better now - thanks for listening - i'm sure some of you are glad my phone card is broken - LOL - I can't wait to be home in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!
